Durban - One man was killed and another two were injured when they were ambushed in a drive-by shoot

The three men were sitting a vehicle that was parked in Old Main Road when gunmen opened fire on them.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala confirmed the incident, saying it was alleged that the three men were seated in a car at noon when two men who were in a grey vehicle opened fire on them.

“A passenger was fatally shot while the driver and second passenger sustained injuries,” she said.

She said the injured were taken to a hospital for medical attention.

Gwala said the motive for the attack was unknown.

Police said charges of murder and attempted murder were opened at Pinetown police station for investigation.

Marshall Security’s Andreas Mathios said reports about the incident came in from various WhatsApp groups and neighbourhood watch networks in the Pinetown area stating that they heard automatic gunfire.

Earlier this month, IOL reported that Seelan Pillay, the brother of a local ANC councillor and MP Brandon Pillay, was killed in a drive-by shooting at a shopping centre in Chatsworth.

According to the report, Pillay was leaving a fast food outlet with his wife when he was shot in the back and head multiple times.

Paramedics said a gold vehicle drove by as Pillay and his wife were getting into their white Toyota SUV and the occupants rapidly opened fire on them.
